This mother-of-pearl and silk fan had slits between each
rib. The lace had also come unattached and some of the ribs
and back guard had breaks. These repairs had been made with
a line tape that extended out from the rib in some cases,
yellowed and covered the design of the guard.
Once the fan was cleaned, the adhesive tape was gently
removed. The tears in the fan were secured with sheer
fabric that is almost invisible.
