After treatment
The surface of this doll and doll's clothes and accessories
were vacuumed and surface mold was denatured. The surface
of the doll's head and shoes were cleaned with mild
detergent. Wet cleaning of the silk dress was performed,
and creases were lessened with humidification. Stabiltex
was attached to the inside of the bloomers and petticoat.
The shattered silk was aligned and stitched to the
Stabiltex with a series of parallel couching stitches. The
tears were supported with a sheer fabric of similar weight
as the dress, coated with adhesive and distilled water,
aligned and secured with low heat. A custom storage box to
hold the doll and its accessories was constructed from
acid-free board to fit inside the existing doll box.
