Flag mounted on the museum's wall.
After treatment.
This silk National flag from the Fifth Maine Regimental Museum had become
very deteriorated due to being on continuous display
since the 1880's in the regimental summer camp on Peak
Island, ME, where they established a Save the Flag
Project. The flag was carefully removed a the flag
from the wall where it had hung. It was rolled and
transported to the studio of Spicer Art Conservation,
LLC where it was cleaned, threads aligned and mounted.
It has been returned to the museum where the full flag
can now be seen.
The Fifth Maine Regiment Museum has been selected to
receive the Grace Rogers Cooper Flag Preservation Award
from the North American Vexillological Association for
their
Save the Flag Project.
