Samplers
and Embroideries
A wide variety of samplers and needle-works have been
treated by Spicer Art Conservation, LLC, from alphabet to
fancy work on silk. Each type of sampler have different
needs and goals.
Frequently samplers and embroideries obtain their original
mounting materials. Stabilizing treatments are custom
designed around keeping as much of their these materials
and attachments. The embroidery below was still attached to
its strainer. An internal padded support was created to
give the work overall support.
At times the embroidery do need to be removed from their
support and attached to a new archival one. During this
process stitching is performed overall. All attempt is made
to returned embroideries to their original frames.
During the initial unframing of an embroidery surprises
are sometimes found, like this reused of an advertisement.
